What is Mathathon's methodology and philosophy?

We strongly believe that that Math should be taught as a language, where each concept builds upon the foundations of previous topics rather than teaching Math as isolated topics. This will help students to see how different mathematical concepts relate to each other and help them to understand the logical structure, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the subject.

Develop problem-solving skills;

Is the lesson materials and content in line with MOE syllabus?

Yes, our lesson materials and content are closely in line with the latest MOE syllabus. We have meticulously designed and comprehensively developed our curriculum inhouse to embrace the strengths of both modern and traditional learning methods.

With these approaches, we aim to create a dynamic educational environment for our students.

How do the teachers in Mathathon manage different class dynamics?

Our teachers in Mathathon have over a decade of teaching experience and have handled different class dynamics. Typically, our teachers would employ different strategies, depending on the class dynamics, such as:

Differentiation: Our teachers recognise that every student has a different learning style and ability, they would tailor their instructions to meet each individual student's needs. They may also provide differentiated activities, materials and support to accommodate various learning paces and preferences within the class.

Responding to changes: Throughout the students' learning journey, our teachers will continuously monitor each student's progress and adjust their instructions accordingly. There will be constant use of quick checks (mini quizzes), observation, and student feedback to identify areas of strength and areas needing improvement, allowing our teachers to tailor instructions to meet the evolving needs of each student.

Secure and supportive Classroom Culture: At Mathathon, we provide our students with a secure and supportive environment where our teachers will foster a positive and inclusive classroom where students feel secure, valued, respected, and supported. Students will be encouraged to collaborate, participate actively, and show mutual respect among students, which helps to minimise disruptions and enhance learning.

What are the differences between Mathathon's IP and G3 classes?

Our G3 classes follow closely to the O-Level syllabus, with an aim to prepare our students for the GCE O-Level exam at the end of their 4 years education.

On the other hand, our IP classes are designed and catered specially for students in the Integrated Programme schools who do not need to take the O-Levels but instead study for 6 years leading to their GCE A-Level exams. The IP syllabus will follow closely to that of the IP schools where the pace and content will differ slightly to our regular G3 classes as we are looking to prepare our IP students for their GCE A-Level exams.

Typically, we would recommend students to avoid attending classes intended for a different stream due to differences in curriculum and teaching focus.

What is Mathathon's average class size?

The capacity of the classroom is currently catered for 10 students. Using our agile approach, we will split the students into different scrum teams depending on the class size and individual strength of the student. Every student will be given sufficient attention and we ensure all students’ needs are met.

Are there any deposit or material fee required?

Accepted Answer

We do not collect any deposit or material fee!  Instead, all materials will be provided, and no security deposit is required at Mathathon

Why is Mathathon offering class packs instead of the usual tuition payment methods (i.e., monthly or term payments as seen from other tuition centers?)

Accepted Answer

Through class packs, we look to offer more flexibility to both parents and students. They are not constrained by the schedule of Mathathon. Students who wish to attend more classes can look to do so based on their preference and schedule.

If I am on overseas vacation, what happens to my class pack?

Accepted Answer

If you finish utilising the package before its expiry date, no additional charge will be incurred. However, if you wish to extend the validity of the class package, do inform our staff and we will see how we can help you. We offer only a 1-time free extension of the class packages for all students.

We understand that sometimes students would have other commitments in school and outside of school.

Am I allowed to use the lounge/consultation space at Mathathon to do my own revision?

Accepted Answer

Please do! We designed our space such that it is conducive for students to learn and grow. Just make sure you keep your volume down especially if there is a concurrent class going, and do not impose distractions to other students who are also learning.
